Wang Dan writes on 31 May 2010:
21 years ago today: The Command Headquarter at Tiananmen Square called a press conference, where the Deputy Commander-in-chief Li Lu made a statement on behalf of the FASSC. He described the student movement as a democratic movement led by a group of patriots with no political connection. He also put forward four demands from the students to urge for:
- The revocation of martial law;
- The withdrawal of the troops;
- A reassurance of no retaliation; and
- The implementation of press freedom.
In Taiwan, several hundreds of thousands of students took part in a “hand in hand, heart to heart” campaign to lend their support to students in mainland China.
