21 years ago today: students at the Square held a joint meeting before dawn. Representatives from 89 colleges had attended to elect members for the Tiananmen Square Temporary Command. The Independent University Student Union had withdrawn to Beijing University. Another demonstration took place in the afternoon. More than a million protestors took to the streets to show their support for the students. Meanwhile, three demonstrators, Yu Dongyue, Lu Decheng and Yu Zhijian, threw ink at Mao Zedong’s portrait.
