Wang Dan writes on 11 May 2010:

21 years ago today: Seven of us, Wu’er Kaixi, Ma Shaofang, I, Cheng Zhen, Wang Wen and Yang Zhaohui, had a discussion at an eatery opposite to the National People’s Congress. We decided to launch a hunger strike in all universities. We believed at the time that the authorities were using a delay tactic in order to demolish the student movement.  Hence there was a need to step up pressure to ensure that the movement would not suffer a premature death. We all hoped that this movement would help improve the political situation in China.
