Wang Dan writes on 8 May 2010:

21 years ago today: The student movement entered a readjustment phase; very little progress was made. The Dialogue Delegation continued its attempt to make contacts with the Government, while the authorities had, as usual, been evasive. Those at Beijing Normal University were also talking about rejoining the strike. Another round of action was fermenting to bring the movement to a new climax. By then, I had already retired from Beida’s Preparatory Committee to make ways for new members. Wang Chaohua had gradually taken over leadership roles at the Independent University Student Union, and Wang Youcai was in charge of routine duties at the Beida Preparatory Committee.
